Healing Grief through Art

I created this series originally as tryptychs, during my graduate photography program at AAU from 2008-2009. This series was powerful and those that were in authority did not approve of this series and had me revise it approximately 4 times. I kept going because I believed in the message of this series and eventually received a 'fail' for my mid point review which prevents one from finishing one's degree, even if one is an excellent student...legal loopholes and lessons learned. The Good News is that these images have been published and exhibited Giving Thanks to Terrence Sanders of Art Voices Magazine

When you keep going and don't give up, 

and trust that the truth always shines through the darkness, 

Good things do happen, 

especially when you keep taking positive action steps. 

To be honest, not one piece was sold.

And that was a journey. 

While all this was going on, 

I was giving birth to my first and only child Aspen, who is now 7. 

We live a quiet life in Northern California and We Are Thriving Through It.

We Are Learning and Growing.

And I'm still making art, there are many stews simmering on my creative stove.

This work is for those that feel it, have lived it, know it and just get what I'm saying.

One.

Looking back at these images now,

 I see a feminist exploration of female rage and grief. 

As we have been boxed in to packaged things...

the system has made us, and it's up to us 

to RE-CREATE US

to RE-CLAIM US.

We have become like barbies and dolls 

sold and traded like we are plastic nothings, 

and We Are More Than Something, 

and definitely Not Nothing.

We Are Everything 

and 

We Are Thriving Through It.

We Are The Divine Feminine Rising 

and 

WE RISE TOGETHER.
